El alcalde de Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, ha presentado hoy los principales proyectos que el municipio prevé impulsar o culminar durante el próximo año, en lo que ha descrito como una “carta anticipada a los Reyes Magos”. Según ha señalado, 2026 será un ejercicio relevante para Almuñécar y La Herradura.
Ruiz Joya ha informado de que el Ayuntamiento ha obtenido financiación de la Unión Europea para la construcción de un nuevo centro de día destinado a menores con necesidades específicas de apoyo, lo que evitará desplazamientos a otras localidades de la Costa Tropical. Ha indicado que el objetivo municipal es iniciar las obras en 2026 y que el equipamiento se ubicará en parte del solar que quedará disponible en el antiguo complejo Turismo Tropical.
Asimismo, el alcalde ha recordado que se ha formalizado ante notario el préstamo de la Diputación de Granada, por valor de 11,8 millones de euros, destinado a la construcción de viviendas para jóvenes. El proyecto ha sido adjudicado a la empresa Nacimiento, que levantará 60 alojamientos en régimen de alquiler y un aparcamiento con 160 plazas, de las cuales 100 serán de rotación para uso público. Según Ruiz Joya, las obras podrán comenzar tras la Navidad.
También ha señalado que el próximo año será clave para culminar el parque neurodivergente, un espacio diseñado para favorecer el bienestar de menores con necesidades especiales y sus familias. Del mismo modo, se iniciará la transformación del antiguo Turismo Tropical en el futuro Sénior Tropical, que incluirá un aparcamiento subterráneo y contribuirá a dinamizar la zona de San Cristóbal.
En relación con el proyectado hotel de cinco estrellas en La Herradura —un proyecto anunciado de forma intermitente durante más de veinte años— el alcalde ha explicado que se prevé el inicio de las obras alrededor del mes de marzo, momento en el que podría colocarse la primera piedra. Ha subrayado que se trata de una iniciativa con potencial para generar empleo y reforzar la oferta turística del municipio.
Por otro lado, Ruiz Joya ha destacado que el nuevo mercado municipal se encuentra en su fase final tras una inversión íntegramente municipal superior a 7,5 millones de euros. También ha señalado el avance del Acuario de Almuñécar, cuya apertura está prevista para diciembre, y ha valorado que ambos equipamientos contribuirán a fortalecer la actividad turística, comercial y educativa de la ciudad.
Finalmente, el alcalde ha deseado salud y prosperidad a los vecinos y vecinas de Almuñécar y La Herradura, y ha expresado su confianza en que 2026 será un año de progreso para el municipio.

Almuñécar plans to begin construction of the Day Centre for Children with Diverse Needs in 2026 and revives the five-star hotel project after two decades of announcements
The mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, presented today the main projects that the municipality expects to launch or complete over the coming year, describing the announcement as an “early letter to the Three Wise Men”. He stated that 2026 will be an important year for both Almuñécar and La Herradura.
Ruiz Joya reported that the City Council has secured European Union funding for the construction of a new day centre for children with specific support needs, which will prevent families from having to travel to other municipalities along the Costa Tropical. He noted that the goal is to begin construction in 2026 and that the facility will be located on part of the plot that will become available at the former Turismo Tropical complex.
He also recalled that a loan of 11.8 million euros from the Provincial Council of Granada has been formalized before a notary, aimed at building housing for young people. The project has been awarded to the company Nacimiento, which will construct 60 rental units and a car park with 160 spaces, 100 of them for public use. According to the mayor, construction could begin after the Christmas period.
Ruiz Joya added that next year will be crucial to completing the neurodivergent park, a space designed to support the well-being of children with special needs and their families. The transformation of the former Turismo Tropical into the future Sénior Tropical —which will include an underground car park and contribute to revitalising the San Cristóbal area— is also expected to begin.
Regarding the five-star hotel project in La Herradura —announced repeatedly over more than twenty years— the mayor stated that construction is expected to begin around March, when the laying of the first stone could take place. He highlighted the project’s potential to create jobs and enhance the municipality’s tourism offer.
He further noted that the new municipal market is in its final stage, following a fully municipal investment of more than 7.5 million euros, and mentioned progress on the Almuñécar Aquarium, scheduled to open in December. Both facilities, he said, will strengthen the city’s tourist, commercial and educational offerings.
